28 August, 2009: that was the day when it all started, when the idea to do a coast to coast was born. Code name: C2C2010.
We’ve always said that before we reached 30, we would do a trip on the road, but not just a trip, but the trip: a coast to coast across the USA. So time went by, and in august 2009 we realized that the following year would have been our last chance to realize our dream. We said “2010 will be the Coast to Coast year, no matter what!”.
Today, after 11 month spent getting ready, changing plans, guessing how it would all turn out, here we are, ready to go. And it seems that these 11 month went by much faster than the last week. The closer we get to that day, the slower the hours pass.
There’s not much else to do, all we can do is sit and wait. Everything has been taken care of, everything’s ready. We’re just waiting for the moment in which we’ll go through the damned house door with all our luggage and with that thing in our hearts, that we have nurtured through all this time, that brought us here: our will to travel across those infinite roads, to see all those places we’ve always dreamt of, to experience that sense of freedom that only a trip like this can give you.
The long wait will end tomorrow morning at 4.00 a.m.: that soon because we have to be at the airport at 6.00 to catch our flight which departs at 8.00. We try to remember everything we have to do and bring with us, hoping not to forget anything. We weight our luggage trying to leave enough room for all the things we’ll buy during the next four weeks on the road.
But these are all minor details, all that had to been done, has been done, and it was more than enough. We just have to try to sleep now, and wake up early tomorrow!
